Why isn’t there a 24 hour convenience store in downtown Memphis?
Seriously, there’s no walkable 24 hour convenience store in downtown Memphis core. There’s not even a pharmacy open later than 8pm (Seriously Walgreens, wtf? 8pm on weekdays, 7 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday? Are you kidding me?). Walgreens could step it up and at least stay open to midnight, but from what I’ve heard the management doesn’t think that main street, being closed to motorized vehicles, has enough traffic to keep it open later. I disagree, but I guess they at least have a reason.
The two convenience stores downtown don’t even have that argument, the relatively new Second Street Shoppers on Second between Bigfoot Lodge and The Flying Fish closes around 10pm, and the place at Second and Madison (Which I can’t find with a google search, and don’t know the name of) closes around 10 during the week and midnight on weekends (IIRC).? Both are on Second street, with plenty of traffic, both motorized and pedestrian. There are enough people downtown, even during the week in the slow season, to justify at least one 24 hour store in the downtown core area. I’m sick of having to drive if it’s after midnight and I need cigarettes or something.
