Speculation is flying around about the “gPhone”, which is likely going to be announced tomorrow. It’s between this, the iphone 3g, and the treo pro for me. I can’t wait to see what the real specs are…

The phone they’re announcing is the HTC Dream, which will run a preliminary version of the Android OS. From what I’ve seen, it’s fairly ugly, but extremely wide open to modification/hacking. So people will be able to make it pretty and useful in their own way.
In short, expect a lot of Appletards to ridicule it for a while, until enough hackers get ahold of the thing to make some cool stuff on it, at which point they’ll have to realize that their $500 POS is a closed system controlled by one monolithic corporation that could give less than a shit about what they want.
Openness rules. Every time.
Yeah, I’ve had a ton of HTC phones. Hopefully the community embraces it, and I don’t see why they wouldn’t. I was going to get an iphone as soon as they announced the 3G, but the “Locked Down” factor really irks me.
The interface is slick, but there’s not even a tethering application. Treo pro looks to have promise, but given the choice, I’d rather have both a keyboard and a nice big screen.
I’m kinda trying to hold out for an idea of how unlockable the G1 is. Open Source might be the factor that sways me.
