Text:

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - About 150 hurricane evacuees with special medicals needs or small children are concerned about unsanitary conditions and a lack of air conditioning and showers at the Ed Rice Community Center.

“I’m kinda worried about overcrowding, worried about central air and the bathroom facilities,” evacuee Carrie Gilliland said.

Some evacuees said not enough is being done to help them, but officials said they’re doing the best they can to accomodate them.

“It does overwhelm us when we get an influx of people,” said Shelby County Sheriff’s Dept. Spokesman Steve Shular. “When we have that many people all in one space, that can drum up a lot of trash and can lead to some problems like we’ve seen yesterday with the plumbing. But make no mistake…we want to make sure if there’s a concern, it’s dealt with.”

Evacuee Rhonda Turner says her main concerns are dirty bathrooms with no showers. “No showers, the bathroom is awful, roaches in my Kool-Aid and they tell me I can’t get a better place to stay.”

But Shular said crews already fixed a plumbing problem at the shelter, and hot portable showers have been ordered and are on the way. They’ve also repaired the air conditioning, he said.

Anyone with questions or concerns about a shelter can call the Emergency Operations Center at (901) 515-2525.

This is NOT good enough for free! Where is my better free shit? No central air? WHAT THE FUCK!?
