So apparently there’s some family movie opening in Memphis soon. Not really sure why Memphis was chosen, other than the geographical aspect (It’s also opening in St. Louis and Louisville), but they are sending me a screener, and that makes me feel like a legitimate media outlet, so I’ll promote them anyway. I’ll report back after I see it…

Police Director Hot Over Racy Pics With MPD Equipment
FAST FACTS:
Two pictures of women posing on Memphis Police Scooters
Against police policy
Police investigating
(Memphis 9/21/2010) They were blonde and proud of it.
The two women were also workout enthusiasts, and it showed. They stood on the platform of a Memphis Police T-3 scooter, a ride that sort of resembles a Sedgeway on steroids, and posed.
First one. Then the other. In the overall scheme of things, it was pretty innocent. But for Police Director Larry Godwin, it was the lack of thought that counts.
Godwin saw both pictures for the first time and immediately hoped that his officers weren’t involved. “I’m hoping,” he said, “they (the scooters) were parked there and the officers were handling a call or maybe eating dinner.” The Director has been pushing hard for the department to live up to a professional image. He demands officers wear hats while on patrol because it “finishes off the uniform” in his words. “I want us to be a professional department in every way,” he said.
The pictures are definitely not the image he wants. “You know, with Facebook and everything,” Director Godwin says, “..those pictures can get out fast. And that’s not what I want.”
It certainly isn’t police corruption, nor is it national news, and heck, there might be a group of you who don’t think its news at all.
But Director Larry Godwin wants to find out how it happened and make sure it doesn’t happen again. “We’re looking into it,” he said. “We’re going to look at who was using the T-3′s that night, or was there a call. We know the location already. And we’re going to find out.”
Ok, first it’s “Segway”, do you have a proofreader? I mean, just google it, that’s fucking embarrassing, fuck. Second, how the fuck is this a story, or news in any way, shape, or form?
The horrible picture in question?

JESUS FUCK, A GIRL IN SHORTS, LYNCH HER! I’m really struggling to see the issue here…

With the unfortunate closing of South Philly a couple of months ago, I’m left without a cheesesteak fix. Any ideas?

In case you forgot, Willie Herenton is still black. That’s pretty much still the entirety of his platform, apparently the same unchanged racist bullshit he started with.
He recently reinforced his position that all black people should support him because he’s black with this moving commentary:
If any African American stood with Cohen today as an endorsement, they ought to feel embarrassed
I agree! How dare they associate with a white jew! What we should do is split the seat, and have separate but equal representation based solely on skin tone! I mean, there’s no way that a black guy could ever represent my positions, so there’s no point in talking about any issues or anything, I’ll just vote for the guy that looks the most like me! In fact, can anyone tell me which candidate for Sheriff is taller? I’m about 5’7″, so I can’t imagine a tall guy representing me. I’ll just vote for whomever happens to be shorter. Even better, are any of the candidates named “Mike”? My name is Mike, so I can’t imagine better representation than someone else named Mike.
What a fucking idiot.
Memphis has a long and painful past of racial conflict. While I don’t at all feel that we should ignore our history, I also don’t feel that segregation and racial division was the answer in 1960, and it’s not the answer 50 years later. With all due respect to those who fought for their civil rights as a person, not a black person, not a white person, not a jewish person, but as a human being; I don’t find any difference between “Don’t vote for the white guy” and “Don’t serve coloreds”.
Mr. Herenton – Leave your inflammatory racist rhetoric in the past with Jim Crow. Oliver Brown would appreciate it.

Meh.
Had a handful of cool shots of Memphis, but that was basically the only thing that entertained me about it. The lead actor is actually decent, but the character is just a cliche. The rooftop shots that are obviously New Orleans and not Memphis were insulting. The “Police Station” being a tiny little closet was just silly. I understand it’s a fictional show, but it actually showed a shot of 201 Poplar in the opening sequence.
I suppose it passes for mindless entertainment, but the fact that it’s not shot in Memphis basically kills it for me.

Thanks to my sparkling personality, I got a package the other day.

After the requisite “Awww!” I started to check out the package contents. First I found a crack pipe.

Ok, It’s a bombilla, but I thought it was a crackpipe at first. I’ve been in Memphis too long.

And a Gourd, though I think the one I’m linking is a different style, it’s the same idea.

Seems to be a polished hardwood vessel. The one I was sent is absolutely beautiful.
I believe the traditional way is to put the loose tea in the bottom and pour nearly boiling water over it, then let it steep before drinking it through the bombilla. Here’s the tea.

Looks like pot, honestly.

Everything together has an undeniable old world charm.

Now, your job is to tell me how to make this tea without ruining it. Should I use my French Press or just rely on the straw for filtration? Do I let it steep for long, or drink it fast? Should I add sugar, milk, etc, or drink it as straight tea? What should I send the lovely Maria in a futile attempt to match a gift this cool? Help!
