Looks like the “American Pickers” guys are in town.
Hope they shoot some footage in the Memphis area, pretty cool show overall.

I got this from the Orpheum a few weeks ago and forgot to post it. Here’s the cliff notes version:
Here’s the official press release on their website.
In short, they play classic and cult classic movies on Thursday and/or Friday during the summer.
The Majestic Grill is usually really popular before/after shows btw, so check that out if you decide to hit up a show. I know I will.
Parilla Rio Loco from Rio Loco. The single is more than enough food for two people. I imagine the double size would feed a family of four. From their menu:
From my phone:
Highly suggested. Except between the food and the margarita, I’m now worthless for the next two hours.
First off, I’d like to send my condolences to the people of Memphis. Thanks to the weather, they have suffered emotionally and financially in the past few weeks. Actually that’s not really true. It would be more accurate to say they have suffered emotionally and financially in the past few weeks thanks to the weather media.
Fantastic article. Everyone I know who doesn’t live in Memphis has asked me if I’m ok. This guy’s post does a lot to cover why people are calling us to make sure we’re alive in Downtown Memphis.
As an aside, I tried to email the author to let him know I was linking his article, but I’m not signing up for Forbes just to contact him. If he reads this and would like me to take it down, he can email me.
But I might have been mistaken. The volume of people coming to look at it is pretty awesome. I usually take Riverside Drive home from work every evening. If there’s anyone walking down riverside, it’s maybe 3-5 random tourists. Logical, given that there’s not really anything on Riverside Drive. It’s the river on one side and the bluff on the other. For a Wednesday night around 7pm, this is pretty crazy:
I made a donation a few weeks ago, and got this in the mail:
Just thought I would share what I felt was an exception and personal feeling thank you note.
Go get your own here: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/memphis/
Started on the roof of my Apartment at Metro67, walked down madison to front, front to monroe, monroe to riverside, up union to wagner, across beale up to the walking path and across the footbridge at beale and riverside, then back up union where I got the homeless guy sleeping in front of the visitors bureau. Enjoy.
I’ll get more pics soon. Here’s what remains of the “road closed” sign at Main and Madison.
I went to Huey’s the other night and noticed a new burger on the menu, the bluff city burger. According to the website:
From the char-grille, on a buttered and toasted Kaiser bun, our world famous Huey Burger, served with smoked cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, onion straws, BBQ sauce, with shredded lettuce and pickles. Delicious!
I gotta say, it’s fantastic. One of the few burgers that stand a real chance of making me change my order from the classic Hueyburger. I’ll let the pics speak for themselves.
Picked up a large supreme tonight for dinner. They only deliver to harbor town, so people that actually live downtown will have to go pick it up. So it goes.
Anyway, I got a large supreme. It was ready when they said it would be, and the guys working there were cool enough. A large supreme ran me $20 + tax and tip. It consisted of pepperoni, ham, sausage, green and black olives, peppers, onions, and mushrooms.
The pizza was a little sloppy, I should have taken a picture, but I was hungry. Most of the toppings were piled in the middle, with not much around the outside. On the plus side, the toppings tasted very fresh, and I dig the use of green olives.
The crust kinda split the difference between “hand tossed” and NYC style thin. It was decent while eating the pizza, but a little chewy when finishing off the crust. It did have a distinct garlic butter flavor that was very tasty, but the texture got to be a bit on the chewy side.
I was not a fan of the sauce at all. Thankfully the pizza was light on sauce. When I got toward the crust and got just crust and sauce, the sauce was overpowering. Way, way too overbearing.
Aside from that, it was a bit ho-hum. It’s certainly better than chain pizza, but it’s nothing I would go out of my way for. Little Italy has better pizza, but every time I call, the guy answering the phone is a fuckface, most recently telling me it was a $30 minimum to drive the 2.6 miles to my apartment. Memphis Pizza Cafe has better pizza, but since neither of them deliver and Pizza Cafe is a much longer drive from downtown, it’s kinda a wash.
Will someone do decent pizza downtown? If not, I might do it myself.
