On guns in bars.

Full disclosure: I have a carry permit. I also go to bars a lot.

As such, the “guns in bars” bill that was vetoed, then the veto overruled and the bill passed into law, has me a little torn.

The goal of the bill was to make it legal to carry your gun, assuming you have a permit to do so, into restaurants who happen to serve alcohol. The resulting bill, of course, made it legal to carry everywhere that serves alcohol, which is probably a bad idea.

On one hand, I’d like to be able to carry my gun into O’Charley’s, even if Fratty McDouche is having a BikiniTini at the bar 50 feet away. On the other, I don’t want the blackout drunk sitting next to me at the dive bar at 4am to be strapped.

Now, to be clear, drinking and carrying is still illegal, but the passing of this bill will likely make it more common.

The law should have broken down the difference between restaurants who serve alcohol, and bars. Of course, that would make way too much sense.
