As I said in a previous post, an old friend of mine recently reopened the discussion board MemphisOfftopic.com. I’m a member of a huge OffTopic forum, so I think the idea of a location specific board is very cool. I’m obviously a fan of blogging, but there’s also something to be said for the diversity on forums, where everyone is more or less equal, as opposed to having a few people who spew their bullshit (like me), and a bunch of people who read it and occasionally comment.

Also, people tend to read blogs that they agree with, so you end up with a bunch of people in a big circle jerk congratulating one another and the peope who disagree simply not coming back. A forum seems to be a good way to bring the cliques to one central, neutral place for the sake of discussion and information sharing (ie – Where can I get a cotton candy goat in frayser at 3am?). Now most members of Dining with Monkeys, for example, are probably young, upwardly mobile families unlikely to know where to find such a demented object. Readers of my blog, however, will immediately know where to procure a cotton candy goat, and even tell you how to score one for free if you have a good aim and an affinity for female homosexuals stricken with gigantism.

My point, or what will pass for a point, is that a forum has it’s place, and blogs have their place. Memphis has quite a few decent blogs, but no message board for the masses. In an effort to remedy this terrible situation, I’m going to start making discussion threads on Memphisofftopic for some of my blog posts. You can still comment here, of course, but the goal is to drive conversation to a forum where everyone is on more or less equal ground. Here’s my first attempt: MoT Thread
