Another excellent call: Tearing down the C & I bank building.
We don’t want anything of value in downtown Memphis. Nothing unique to lend a passing sense of culture. Nothing original. So I think it’s an excellent idea to tear down the C & I bank building, designed by the late Francis Gassner. Maybe an Exxon Tigermart would do well there, or perhaps King Willie can just pave it and move some trailers in for the city to use as office space.
Or an even better idea, we’ll let Bass Pro build a store there too! Or we can always use a WalMart, it’s not a big space, but one of those WalMart neighborhood markets would probably fit.
Then again, there is a distinct lack of StarBucks locations downtown…
*Note* Photos stolen from the GatesofMemphis blog. I emailed for permission, but haven’t heard back yet, so I went ahead and threw them up, I’ll take them down if that’s a problem.
