WTF happened on I55 this evening?

July 31, 2008 By: Sig Category: Memphis No Comments →

I was trying to get home despite the fucking monsoon, and got right past President’s Island when traffic came to a dead stop. I sat there for a few minutes before noticing that no traffic was coming the other way either. I finally put it in low range and cut through the median, looping back to I240 North to get to Union Avenue. I’m thinking it was flooding or something, but I’d like to know…

Thanks for linking me, mallofmemphis.org

I was just looking at my site data and noticed a new referrer.

I added the link to mallofmemphis.org when I first started this site, because I thought their LostMemphis page was very cool. I just noticed that someone at the site added a link to my page. I couldn’t find an email contact to shoot them an email to say thanks, so I hope they see this.

Working on a long ass post, I’ll try to get it up soon.

I ordered a TV card from Newegg, so I’ll get some better shots later, but you get the idea.

This entire MPD enforcer 2.0 thing is hilarious.

Way to go Godwin, you jackass. There’s no better way to make yourself look like a giant douchebag than to waste time and resources persuing a blogger that hurt your feelings.

Reopening Main Street to vehicles.

July 25, 2008 By: Sig Category: Memphis 2 Comments →

Another Memphis blogger wrote an article about the CCC meeting here, so I won’t rehash. Go there if you want to read about the meeting.

I think it’s a horrible idea. Want to make Main viable? EXTEND THE TROLLEY HOURS!!!11

What the fuck good is public transport when the bars are open until 3 or 5 am, and the trolley runs to 1am at the very latest? No one uses the trolley because they’re never running when you need them, thus no one ventures far from their home.

A good friend of mine lives on South Main. I’d like to hang out with him more, but my options are:

Take a trolley, crash on his couch, as they won’t be running when I’m ready to go home, unless I go out at 5pm.

Take a trolley, walk home the ~two miles from Main and G.E. Patterson to Main and Gayoso.

Drive, pay for parking, risk a DUI.

None sound appealing, so I never venture that far down.

I realize that there may be slow nights in which the trolley drivers make more money than the fares they collect, but 1. That will rapidly change once people realize they can actually use the trolley, and 2. it’s still cheaper than finding a viable way to reintroduce vehicle traffic to Main.

Do I think this will happen? Of course not, it makes too much sense and doesn’t involve spending money for no reason. Also, it’s the obvious answer, so it will never come to fruition.

Why is Schnucks trying to sabotage me?

July 15, 2008 By: Sig Category: Beer, Memphis No Comments →

Occasionally, instead of simply walking down to the Second Street Shopper, or stopping at the Riverside Grocery and Deli, I’ll make the trip to midtown after work to buy beer. Why? Because Schnucks carries 12 packs of Newcastle. A 12 pack is easier to carry than two six packs when you park a block away from your home.

The last two I’ve gotten there have broken apart, breaking my fucking beers, and spilling beer everywhere.

I’ve never seen a newcastle 12 pack handle break until now. I think someone set me up the bomb.

Some pictures are only funny with an explanation.

Take this for example.

Seems like a completely reasonable sign to be hanging in a parking garage.

Except it’s hanging in the elevator in the parking garage.

It’s about 10 minutes long. He’s supposed to send it to me and I’m going to cut it into single event segments. Here’s the whole thing in the meantime. Tony also has it up on the Hoop’s Bar website.
