The Memphis Business Journal’s “Best Chef” contest is off.

I recently posted about the MBJ’s “Best Chef” contest. Apparently it’s no longer going on. The Memphis Business Journal has the full story. In short, most of the chefs involved signed a letter stating that they would not like to take part. Excerpted: As the Memphis restaurant scene has continued to develop, especially with the [...]

Vote for Mike Patrick in the Memphis Business Journal “Best Chef” contest.

Memphis Business Journal is doing a “Best Chef” contest based on reader votes. Looks like it will be done by weekly matchup instead of a straight vote. Here’s the main page: http://www.bizjournals.com/memphis/feature/best-chef-in-memphis-landing-page.html And a direct link to vote for Chef Patrick: http://www.bizjournals.com/memphis/blog/2012/02/best-chef-in-memphis-round-1-match-10.html

Finally got to Rizzo’s Diner the other night.

Well, actually over a week ago, but I’m just now getting around to posting about it. Rizzo’s is on GE Patterson near main, basically across the street from the arcade in the old Harry’s Detour location. It’s chef Michael Patrick’s new restaurant, the first place he’s been both the owner and the head chef. For [...]

Going to Rizzo’s Diner tomorrow night for dinner…

Are they still BYOB or do they have their beer/liquor permits yet?

City Market “Mystery Chips” are now available in bags.

And they are awesome, I’m absolutely addicted. The flavor is kinda hard to explain, so I can only suggest you give them a try yourself, you won’t regret it.     City Market 66 S. Main (at Union)

Michael Patrick is opening his own restaurant, “Rizzo’s Diner”

The facebook page is up, but I don’t believe they have a proper website yet. Excerpted from a message he sent me: The Grand Opening will be Trolley Night September 30th. The Cuisine will be southern inspired diner fare with my fine dining twists and interpretations. Lunch 11 to 2:30 Tuesday through Friday. Dinner 5 [...]

Is Gus’ fried chicken still the best in the world?

Yes, yes it is. I had to test it again last night, you know, just to be sure.

In my opinion, the best mexican dish in Memphis.

Parilla Rio Loco from Rio Loco. The single is more than enough food for two people. I imagine the double size would feed a family of four. From their menu: From my phone: Highly suggested. Except between the food and the margarita, I’m now worthless for the next two hours.

Huey’s Bluff City Burger.

I went to Huey’s the other night and noticed a new burger on the menu, the bluff city burger. According to the website: From the char-grille, on a buttered and toasted Kaiser bun, our world famous Huey Burger, served with smoked cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, onion straws, BBQ sauce, with shredded lettuce and pickles. Delicious! [...]

Who’s gonna tell me how to make a yerba mate?

Thanks to my sparkling personality, I got a package the other day. After the requisite “Awww!” I started to check out the package contents. First I found a crack pipe. Ok, It’s a bombilla, but I thought it was a crackpipe at first. I’ve been in Memphis too long. And a Gourd, though I think [...]
