So I might take another route with my phone debacle…

April 12, 2008 By: Sig Category: Technology No Comments →

As I bitching about here, I can’t find a WM6 Pro phone with a decent camera. I’m thinking of maybe getting a second phone and just swapping sim cards when I go out.

I basically have it narrowed down to the?Sony-Ericsson K790a or the Nokia N73. Both have nice cameras, the Sony has a better flash and the Nokia has a better operating system. Tough call, maybe I’ll just wait on the Sony X1 :D

Artie Lange Walks Off the Stern Show

April 12, 2008 By: Sig Category: Entertainment 2 Comments →

More details here.

I missed the Stern show yesterday, but had people tell me that Artie lost it again, this time freaking out on his assistant Teddy, and quit. I’m listening right now, it’s up on youtube. I was wondering why they were replaying monday’s show on thursday. It pisses me off that they pulled the replay. It’s not a legal issue, it already happened and was broadcast, why deprive your subscribers of interesting content? Kinda makes all the “No more bullshit” taglines a little hard to swallow.

Listening right now on youtube, I’ll update in half an hour or so…

Edit - Jesus, Artie really has lost his fucking mind. He’s blowing up over nothing. I hope he gets his shit together, when he’s actually fucking awake he’s one of the best parts of the show.

Memphis Pizza Cafe - Cafe Supreme

April 11, 2008 By: Sig Category: Food, Memphis No Comments →

I swear I’m going to get groceries this weekend.

I picked up a Cafe Supreme (Minus mushrooms, I don’t like their mushrooms for some reason) from Memphis Pizza Cafe for dinner. Pizza cafe is a little closer New York style than most places in the city, kind of a hybrid of that style and thin crust style. It’s always consistent, and tonight was no exception. At under $20 for a large supreme that will feed two hungry people at least twice, it’s one of my go-to things when I’m lazy and want a cheap easy meal.

Downtown Memphis public safety number

April 10, 2008 By: Sig Category: Memphis, Uncategorized No Comments →

Just noticed this on Paul Ryburn’s site and thought it was worth passing along:

Several people have e-mailed me asking for the new security/public safety patrol?s phone number.? It?s (901)281-9146.

Please keep in mind that for right now, the patrol?s coverage area only extends from Front to Second, from Adams on the north to Linden on the south.? Streets outside that area may be covered later if the 3-month pilot program is extended, but are not included during this initial testing phase.? Patrol runs from 8 AM - 9 PM Sun-Wed and 8 AM - 11 PM Thur-Sat.

Please consider adding this number to your cell phone?s contacts.? I?d especially like to ask for your help reporting panhandlers who run parking scams in the Peabody Place/Beale/Front/Second area.? If you see them standing by an unattended metered spot, you know why they?re there.? Just call the security patrol, give as good a description as possible,?and they?ll likely be there in 2 minutes.? We?ve all got to work together to run these hustlers out of that area, so that people who visit Downtown can safely exit and enter their cars without being hit up for money.

“Rape is like being force-fed chocolate cake”

April 10, 2008 By: Sig Category: Uncategorized No Comments →

Or so says Sir John Bull on his blog, (The posting has since been removed).

From The Londonist:

“Rape is simply sex (I am talking about ‘husband-rape’ here)… Women enjoy sex, so rape cannot be such a terrible physical ordeal? To suggest that rape, when conducted without violence, is a serious crime is like suggesting force-feeding a woman chocolate cake is a heinous offence.?

If there was a god, he would be kidnapped and raped, just for the irony.

List of songs deemed inappropriate by clear channel following 9/11

April 10, 2008 By: Sig Category: Uncategorized 1 Comment →

As if you needed another reason to hate the evil empire.

Wiki article

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search

This is a list of songs deemed inappropriate by Clear Channel Communications following the September 11, 2001 attacks. In the days following the attacks, many television and radio stations altered normal programming in response to the events. During this period, the rumor spread that Clear Channel and its subsidiaries had established a list of “songs with questionable lyrics” that stations might not want to play after the attacks. This list was distributed by the independent newsletter Hits Daily Double, which is not affiliated with Clear Channel.[1]

Snopes did research on the subject and concluded that the list did exist as a suggestion for radio stations but noted that it was not an outright ban on the songs in question.[2]

The list contains 166 songs, including “all songs” by Rage Against the Machine and songs done by multiple artists (for example “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” by Bob Dylan and the same song by Guns N’ Roses). Interestingly, the cover of “Smooth Criminal” by Alien Ant Farm is on the list despite the fact that the original version, sung by Michael Jackson, is not.[3]

I’ll hit the highlights:

  • Alice In Chains - Them Bones
  • Beastie Boys - Sabotage
  • Blue Oyster Cult - Burnin’ For You
  • Dave Matthews Band - Crash Into Me

Uh, I guess I see what they’re getting at, but what a giant load of corporate pussydom.

  • 311 - Down

Who the fuck would make that inference?

  • Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World
  • The Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian
  • Pat Benetar - Love is a Battlefield
  • CCR - Travelin’ Band
  • Dio - Holy Diver
  • Nena - 99 luftballons
  • Pink Folyd - Mother

Uh, what?

  • Rage Against the Machine - All Songs by Rage Against the Machine

I don’t even know what to say…

  • John Lennon - Imagine

Fuck. You.

Clear Channel denied the existence of such a list in a press release to a radio industry trade publication, Radio Ink, although they had already admitted to distributing it.[4]

Sounds about right.

Edit - Neil Young did “Imagine” for “Tribute to Heroes” 9/11 Youtube

The weather in Memphis today looks great

April 10, 2008 By: Sig Category: Memphis, Uncategorized No Comments →

Forecast for 38103 from weatherunderground.com:
This Afternoon
Windy. Showers and thunderstorms likely. Some thunderstorms may be severe with heavy rainfall. Highs around 80. South winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts to near 45 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.
Tonight
Windy. Showers and thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may be severe with heavy rainfall. Lows in the mid 60s. South winds 20 to 30 mph decreasing to 15 to 20 mph after midnight. Wind gusts to near 40 mph. Chance of rain 90 percent.
And no, I’m not being sarcastic. This is my favorite kind of night. It’s rainy, but warm enough to not care if you have to walk a block or two in the rain. There’s thunderstorms, but who cares? It’s not like we live in Arlington and have to worry about trees falling on our trailer. Lightning kinda sucks I guess, but in 5 years of living down here, I’ve never had the power go out. But the absolute best? Ask any freshly 21 year old frat boy from Germantown, “No one’s gonna be downtown tonight!”. You sir, are absolutely right, that’s why I’m looking forward to going out tonight. I can wander around freely, unencumbered? by droves of popped collar douchebags ordering whatever’s popular in rap videos.
That, my friends, is what I call favorable weather.

April 09, 2008 By: Sig Category: Uncategorized No Comments →

engadget and others are speculating that this:

Putting my PC in the same room as the TV was a horrible mistake.

April 09, 2008 By: Sig Category: Uncategorized No Comments →

Now I’m listening to fucking gospel on American Idol, thanks to my girlfriend.

Does it really take 40 people to suck? Couldn’t one person sing badly alone? Furthermore, do you think that Seacrest fruit was born a douche, or do you think he was infected with douche at some point in his childhood? This is aural cancer :(
